Slide2 Import
Import supported models and scenarios from Rocscience Slide2 archives.
JSlope imports supported content from Rocscience Slide2 project archives. The current File menu has Import Slide2 only: it does not expose Slide2 export or a round-trip workflow.
Supported files and project structure
The file picker accepts .slmd and .slim archives. JSlope reads every
supported scenario in the archive and recreates the source groups, scenario names,
ordering, master-scenario markers, failure directions, and enabled-for-compute
state. There is no intermediate scenario-selection step.
Import replaces the current workspace with the converted project, so save current work first when it must be retained.
What is imported
| Entity | Notes |
|---|---|
| External boundary and material cells | Converted to JSlope boundary, material-boundary, and region data. |
| Weak layers | Imported when they resolve to at least two vertices, including their supported material properties. |
| Materials | Mohr-Coulomb, Generalized Hoek-Brown, and supported 2D Generalized Anisotropic definitions. |
| Anisotropic surfaces | Supported 2D surface records are imported. |
| Water table and piezometric lines | Imported when their geometry can be resolved. Per-material water references are mapped. |
| Loads | Distributed, line, and horizontal/vertical seismic loads. |
| Ground support | End-anchored support definitions and placed anchors. |
| Slip-surface inputs | Slope limits, block-search polyline, user-defined slip surface, and supported search settings. |
| FEA groundwater | Supported triangular mesh data and recognized groundwater boundary conditions, when present. |
Imported settings include the supported slice count, search method, projection and point-generation settings, pore-fluid unit weight and pressure source, GLE interslice function, and selected advanced slice options. Not every Slide2 setting has a JSlope equivalent.
Warnings, skipped records, and rejected imports
The importer reports warnings for data that cannot be represented safely. Common examples are:
- material types other than the three supported import criteria;
- support types other than end anchored;
- load, piezometric-line, weak-layer, or support records that do not resolve to valid geometry;
- unsupported groundwater element types or incomplete groundwater references; and
- material references to a piezometric line that was not imported.
Generalized Anisotropic scope
Two-dimensional angle/range and anisotropic-surface definitions are supported. Slide2 3D anisotropic surfaces and anisotropic vector-field records are not. If those records are present, or a required anisotropic function/reference is invalid, JSlope rejects the import instead of approximating it.
The archive is also rejected when required project/scenario data is missing, failure direction cannot be mapped, or archive safety limits are exceeded.
After import
Review the imported scenario tree and warnings, inspect material and water
assignments, and recompute before relying on results. Slide2 computed slope results
are not treated as JSlope results. Save the converted project as .jws to
retain JSlope-specific edits and later computations.
