JWedge
Set up surface and underground rock stability analyses with the persistent sidebar.
All apps require a verified JWGeotech account and acceptance of the current Terms. Opening or reloading the app requires an internet connection to verify sign-in. An already authenticated tab can continue through temporary outages until its verified session expires; Browser and Native solving in JSlope and JRunout retain their licence requirements. Sign-out or session expiry locks the workspace and retains unsaved work in the tab. Signing in does not upload local project files.

JWedge is an interactive surface and underground rock-wedge stability tool. Surface mode models wedge or planar sliding against a planar slope or multi-bench profile; underground mode evaluates extruded opening sections and native tunnel intersections.
The app evaluates whether a wedge can form, whether the intersection line daylights, the likely sliding mode, force-balance factors of safety, geometry, runout indicators, and a 3D preview of the active geometry.
Recommended Workflow
- Set the slope geometry first: choose planar or profile geometry, then enter the slope, upper face, or bench profile dimensions.
- Enter Joint 1 and Joint 2 orientations, lengths if joint scaling is enabled, cohesion, and friction angle.
- Choose the analysis mode: Single for one case, Combinations for variable joint-set orientation tables, or Probabilistic for deterministic sampled cases.
- Add optional loads: external force, seismic force, face pressures, or joint water.
- Set runout options, review the 3D viewport, then interpret the compact Results sidebar and Detailed Results window.
- Save a native
.jwwproject or export an, audit-ready PDF, complete result CSV, diagnostics, or OBJ geometry as required by the review workflow.
Navigation Model
The app opens in Geometry with its input pane visible. The initial sample also has a completed calculation available in Results. Select a left-rail tool to edit inputs while previewing the draft; selecting the active tool again collapses the pane.
Geometry previews the editable draft. Results displays the last completed calculation with its input snapshot. Switching workspaces preserves the camera and result selection without calculating. Successful calculations select Results; cancelled or failed calculations retain the last completed snapshot.
File contains New, Open, Save, Save As and data exports; Configure contains project details. Print contains calculation reports and current-view preview. The left rail and Configure menu select Geometry, Planes, Loads, or Options. Loads is unavailable underground. Compute/Cancel, Revert inputs, Review drafts, and Fit view stay below the sidebar content. Ctrl/Cmd+Enter computes or cancels; the Analysis menu provides the same command. Results has sample/combination navigation and the Detailed Results button on the left, with a resizable metrics/stereonet inspector on the right. Project Settings is accessed through Configure and Documentation through Help (F1).
The sidebar starts at 400 px, resizes between 300 and 560 px, and remembers its last pane and width. View > Reset Layout restores the defaults. Messages and progress are available below the sidebar inputs and from the status-bar Messages action.
Detailed Results, Tunnel Intersection Geometry, and the underground CAD editors use resizable floating windows. The CAD editors preserve the 3D scene behind them. Drag windows by their dotted title grip, resize where supported, minimize, and restore using their status-bar buttons. Escape dismisses a CAD context menu or cancels an active gesture before closing the editor; other windows close normally. Minimized CAD editors retain drafts and navigation without receiving keyboard commands. At constrained widths the menu moves to its own row and sidebar widths adapt to available space. At narrow phone widths, the panels and viewport stack into rows. Narrow workspaces remain available; tables scroll within their panels.
Appearance
View > Configure Themes opens Light and Dark profiles with seven JWG presets, System UI/Inter/Geist/Manrope fonts, five editable colours, and contrast. Profile tabs preview that theme without changing the saved Light/Dark/System mode. Apply saves both profiles and Liquid Glass settings. Cancel, close, and Escape restore the opening appearance; minimize keeps the draft and preview.
Liquid Glass has separate Light and Dark settings for blur, tint, saturation, highlight intensity, distance and angular falloff, and Static/Cursor lighting. Disabling glass retains its settings. The editor scrolls independently of its actions. Preferences are local to JWedge and are not part of project files or calculation reports.
Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+D toggles Light/Dark; Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+0 selects System; Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+T opens Configure Themes. Window editing takes precedence over CAD shortcuts.
