Projects, History, Recovery, and Exports
Save project files, recover drafts, use history, and navigate export commands.
Menus and workspace controls
| Command | Behavior |
|---|---|
| File > New (Ctrl/Cmd+N) | Replaces the project with the default sample after Save / Don't Save / Cancel. |
| File > Open (Ctrl/Cmd+O) | Reads a strictly validated native .jww SQLite project. Invalid files leave the current project intact. |
| File > Save / Save As (Ctrl/Cmd+S / Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+S) | Saves the committed editable inputs as jwedge-project.jww. Cancelled or failed writing preserves the current project. |
| Edit > Undo / Redo | Up to 100 committed engineering edits. Keyboard commands are Ctrl/Cmd+Z, Ctrl/Cmd+Y and Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+Z. |
| Configure > Project details / Project rail button | Edits the project name, identifiers, author, reviewer, revision, and notes. |
| Left sidebar / Configure | Selects Geometry, Planes, Loads and Options. Switching or collapsing panes preserves drafts; calculations continue. |
| Analysis > Compute (Ctrl/Cmd+Enter) | Computes changed inputs or cancels a running calculation. The sidebar provides the same action. |
| Status bar > Messages | Opens sidebar progress, errors, provisional-result warnings, and model-scope information. |
| View > Detailed Results | Opens result tables, graphs, and expanded metrics. |
| View > Reset Layout | Restores explorer and inspector visibility and standard panel widths. |
| Help > Documentation (F1) | Opens this website manual in a new tab, leaving the app workspace open. |
Drafts and recovery
Numeric fields commit on Enter or leaving the field. Invalid text remains visible and blocks affected saves and computation; Escape in a numeric field discards that raw draft. Review drafts lists unfinished inputs, including drafts in other sections, and allows undoable discarding. A spreadsheet paste or CAD gesture is one project undo entry. Unfinished CAD drawings use local undo/redo before entering project history on completion.
IndexedDB autosave retains editable project inputs, unfinished numeric/CAD commands and pending rock-bolt library changes. It does not mark the document saved, store large results, or preserve workers. On reload, choose Restore or Discard recovery. Restoring leaves calculation stopped until Compute is selected. Save a project file for a portable copy; local recovery belongs to this browser.
Closing a setup or results window preserves its state. Minimized windows are restored through the shared status-bar buttons. Table selection, Copy/Paste and context menus use the shared spreadsheet controls; large orientation tables scroll locally and render a bounded set of visible rows.
Native project inputs
The native .jww file captures committed editable inputs using project payload 21 and contains project metadata plus canonical surface and underground inputs. Schema 21 requires tunnel intersections to use analysisMode: single and exactly three joints; combinations and probabilistic settings belong only to extruded openings. Worker protocol 3 rejects obsolete worker messages. Schema 21 is metric-only, requires the signed axisPlunge field for extruded underground openings, and stores only the active orientation and length for single-analysis joints and failure planes; obsolete duplicate orientation-row arrays are not accepted. Values are stored directly in m, m2, m3, kN, kN/m, kPa, and kN/m3. Payload 20 and older formats, imperial fields, and other obsolete shapes are rejected rather than converted. Tunnel-intersection imports schedule the worker solver and promote the imported inputs only after successful computation; malformed files leave the current project unchanged.
See Reports and exports for calculation snapshots, PDF, CSV, OBJ, diagnostics, and current-view printing.
Public access
JWedge requires sign-in with a free account at https://wedge.jwgeo.tech. Opening the app requires an internet connection. Once signed in, the open tab can continue through temporary outages until the verified session expires. No JWedge licence or billing purchase is required.
Native .jww projects use SQLite schema 1 and project payload 21. Old JSON projects are rejected. Save overwrites the file selected by Open or a previous Save; Save As chooses another destination. Browsers without file-system pickers download files instead. Files are limited to 25 MiB.
Compute remains available whenever inputs are valid, including immediately after startup or opening a project and when the displayed results already match the inputs. During a calculation the command cancels it.
