JRadar

Inspect coverage and sensitivity

Interpret visibility maps, point queries and sightline profiles.

The selected, enabled, configured radar supplies the map and coverage percentage. Results from different radars are not combined into a distance or sensitivity map. Changing the selection analyses that placement; stale results clear while recalculating.

Minimum slope angle defines the monitoring surface. Zero includes all terrain faces. Coverage is weighted by included triangle area, rather than triangle count.

Colour modeMeaning
Distance from radarSlant distance from antenna to triangle centre.
Vector lossPercentage of assumed displacement not resolved along the radar line of sight.
Spatial resolutionNominal pixel width at the slant distance.
Terrain onlyTerrain without the coverage colour map.

Grey marks obstructed, excluded or out-of-envelope faces. Distance runs from zero to the selected maximum range; vector loss runs from zero to 100%. Spatial resolution uses a shared metre scale, initially 0–20 m, editable in the legend. Hover colour bands for their intervals.

Movement assumption

Choose the assumed displacement direction under Monitoring plan → Movement assumption:

  • Surface normal (default) uses each triangle's full geometric normal.
  • Surface azimuth assumes horizontal movement along each triangle's normal projected onto the XY plane. Flat faces have no horizontal normal component, so their vector loss is unavailable and shown in neutral grey. This does not change visibility, coverage, distance or spatial resolution.
  • User-defined azimuth uses one direction clockwise from grid north, with optional plunge positive downward. Zero plunge means horizontal movement. Your azimuth and plunge values are retained when switching modes.

Vector loss describes displacement sensitivity, not radio power or attenuation. The chosen movement assumption is saved with the study and local recovery.

Queries

Choose Query slope and click terrain to read Easting, Northing, RL and the active map value. Values use the clicked triangle centre, matching the map; the coordinate marker stays at the picked point. The query explains unavailable values on grey faces.

Choose Inspect sightline and click a slope point for the cross-section, slant distance, vector loss and nominal pixel width. The profile is sampled for display; the visibility test uses the full triangle mesh.
