Elastic Properties (FEA)
Elastic parameters used by the finite-element analysis.
Elastic properties are used only by the finite-element analysis (FEA). They have no effect on standard limit-equilibrium (Bishop, Janbu, Spencer, GLE) results.
Each material carries two linear-elastic parameters, edited on the FEA tab of the Define Material Properties modal.
Parameters
| Parameter | Unit | Default | Range | Description |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Young's Modulus (E) | kPa | 30000 | > 0 | Elastic stiffness of the material. |
| Poisson's Ratio (nu) | — | 0.3 | 0–0.499 | Ratio of lateral to axial strain. Capped below 0.5 to keep the material compressible. |
Where they are used
These parameters feed the FEA paths only:
- Stress field — the finite-element stress solve (see FEA Stress Analysis), whose stresses the FEA-based slice strength evaluation uses.
- FEA-elastic interslice function — an interslice force function derived from the elastic stress field, available as an option to the rigorous solvers.
Leaving the defaults in place is appropriate for routine limit-equilibrium analyses; they do not change those results.
