Release surfaces and enclosed masses
Map observations, edit finite halos and select enclosed material.
Use Trace surface to pick an exposed feature, Point to place a halo centre, or Import surface for supplied geometry. Release imports also accept ASCII DXF 3DFACE and polyface meshes; unsupported entities are rejected.
Press Enter or Finish to complete picks; Escape cancels. Trace fitting uses length-weighted observations. A two-point trace assumes a vertical plane, its midpoint as centre and half the separation as radius. A vertically aligned pair needs a dip direction. Other underconstrained traces need explicit orientation or more informative picks.
Select a Point or Trace and press Edit. Change ENU coordinates, dip, dip direction and radius numerically or with Move/Rotate gizmos. Flip Direction rotates dip direction by 180°. Apply creates one project-history edit; Cancel or switching objects/tools discards the edit. Original observations remain separate from halo overrides.
Halos are finite physical surfaces. Their default boundary chord error is 0.01 m and is independent of voxel size. Increasing radius changes the actual release boundary; the engine does not extend surfaces implicitly.
In Enclosed masses, set Minimum volume (m³) and press Identify enclosed masses. Tick the intended masses or select them in 3D. Changes mark earlier geometry outdated; identification never runs automatically. Selection and colours survive rebuilding only when boundary identity and terrain anchor resolve uniquely.
