Plot Styling and Symbolic Plots
Style great circles and joint sets, and map measurement attributes to symbols.
Plot Settings controls default symbols, per-set styles, symbolic plots, density display, and 3D camera settings.
Great Circles
| Input | Range | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Great Circle Thickness | 0.2 to 4 px | Line width used for plotted great circles. |
Default Set Style
| Input | Values | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Shape | Auto by Set, Circle, Square, Diamond, Triangle, Inverted Triangle, Pentagon, Hexagon | Default marker shape for poles. |
| Size | 1.5 to 8 | Default marker size. |
| Colour | Colour picker | Default marker colour. |
Individual Set Styles
When assigned sets exist, the app shows a card for each set. The Set name field renames the actual set throughout orientation assignments, saved filters and scenarios, set windows, plot styles, and DFN options. Names must be unique regardless of letter case and cannot use the reserved No Set label. Each card can also override shape, size, colour, and whether to draw the mean plane or mean pole.
Symbolic Plot Inputs
| Input | Values | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Use custom column symbols for poles | On/off | Enables metadata-based symbols. |
| Custom Column | Any custom orientation column | Metadata column used for symbols. |
| Type | Automatic | Shows whether the selected data are qualitative, quantitative, or unavailable. |
| Scale | Normal, Log | Quantitative colour scaling. |
| Auto range | On/off | Uses observed numeric min/max when enabled. |
| Minimum / Maximum | Numeric | Manual quantitative range when auto range is off. |
| Low Colour / High Colour | Colour pickers | Gradient endpoints for quantitative symbols. |
| Marker Shape | Symbol list | Shape used for quantitative values. |
| Marker Size | 1.5 to 8 | Size used for quantitative values. |
Qualitative symbolic plots allocate unique symbols to category labels. Unallocated labels draw as Others. Blank values draw as [no data]. Quantitative symbolic plots draw a continuous colour gradient.
