Project and Data Workflows
Create projects, import orientation measurements, save files, and recover unfinished work.
Use File for New, Open, Save, Save As, and sample/recovery actions. File → Import Orientations opens the data-import workflow. Configure → Project Settings opens only project identity and save/recovery status. Data Quality has its own left pane.
Project Actions
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| New | Clears orientations, set windows, styles, symbolic plot state, clustering preview, and analysis state. |
| Load Sample Dataset | Loads the bundled synthetic joint-orientation dataset. |
| Project Name | Names the current project and exported project file. An Unsaved marker appears in the command bar after changes. |
| Restore Autosave | Restores the latest compatible browser-local recovery snapshot. |
| Undo / Redo | Moves through up to 30 canonical project snapshots, including orientation, filter, analysis, style, and DFN changes. |
| Open | Loads a complete .jst SQLite project (database schema 1, project payload 19). Older projects, invalid schemas, and missing required sections are rejected; there is no migration or fallback import. |
| Orientations CSV | Exports the current orientation table to CSV. |
| Save / Save As | Saves orientations, set assignment windows, styles, plot settings, density settings, analysis settings, sensitivity settings, and DFN settings in a .jst SQLite project. Save overwrites the selected file; Save As chooses a new destination. |
Project changes are autosaved locally after a short delay. Starting a blank project, loading the sample, restoring recovery data, or importing another project asks for confirmation when the current project has unsaved changes. A completed save marks its captured snapshot as saved; edits made during saving remain unsaved. Files are limited to 25 MiB. Older JSON project files are not supported. Browsers without file-system pickers download a project instead; they control whether an existing file is replaced.
Orientation Import
| Input | Accepted values | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| CSV / TSV File | .csv, .tsv, .txt, text CSV/TSV/plain | File content is previewed before import. |
| Paste CSV / TSV Text | Comma-, tab-, or semicolon-delimited text | Header rows are detected automatically when possible. |
| Import Mode | Replace current orientations, Append to current orientations | Replace clears existing table rows; append keeps them. |
| Strike Convention | Right-hand rule or left-hand rule | Used when a source column is mapped to Strike. Numeric and quadrant bearings such as N30E are accepted. |
| Preview Mapping | Dip, Dip Direction, Strike, Set, Metadata, Ignore | Exactly one Dip and either one Dip Direction or one Strike source column are required. |
| Apply Import | Enabled only when the preview is valid | Imports valid mapped rows into the orientation table. |
Required orientation values are Dip and Dip Direction. Set is optional and defaults to No Set for unassigned. The label U remains an ordinary set name. Extra mapped metadata columns become custom orientation table columns.
Attach a Project to Feedback
Choose Help → Submit Feedback and sign in to submit a report. A paid licence is not required. To help JWG inspect an issue, select Include a copy of my model. This option is off by default.
The attachment contains the current .jst project, including unsaved changes and
the data normally included by Save. It does not mark your local project as saved.
Correct invalid orientation entries before attaching the model. The maximum
attachment size is 200 MiB.
The copy is stored privately on the JWG server for JWG administrators and remains available until an administrator deletes it. If uploading fails, your feedback draft remains in the form; retry or uncheck the attachment to submit without it.
